Breakbeat Science shacks up with halcyon! BBS, long renowned as the US authority Drum & Bass and Dubstep, have moved their local vinyl emporium into halcyon the shop. Now the BBS faithful once again have a full service DJ shop to call home. New Releases received weekly and to assist customers, longtime BBS manager Clever has joined our staff and will be in the shop Tuesday & Thursday 12-4p, Wednesday and Friday 4p-closing.

halcyon the shop is a dynamic concept space in Dumbo, Brooklyn's über-hot waterfront destination district. "the shop" offers a world class dj-oriented music store, design boutique and gallery, with roots deep in the talent-rich local community it serves; both as a social networking hub, creative resource and showcase. Nestled on a corner facing the majestic Manhattan Bridge anchorage, the shop's unique interior makes an immediate impression with it's 14' vaulted brick ceilings and playful "outside-in" design, a mixture of faux grass and bark treatments, edge lit green acrylic accents, custom fixtures of re-purposed heart pine and pools of loose river rocks on the floor.
Dedicated to supporting the underground music, art and fashion that shapes our urban experience, the shop offers an obsessively curated selection of underground, imported and independently released music, focusing on DJ-friendly new and used vinyl, as well as CDs and DVDs. A friendly, knowledgeable staff, and an open listening policy combine to defy the stereotype of the DJ store as an intimidating place, instead encouraging customers to explore the unfamiliar and expand their musical boundaries. On the design side, the shop features a constantly changing array of hand screened T-shirts and fashion accessories, art and design books, periodicals and self published 'zines, posters and prints. A gallery space mounts monthly shows spotlighting local, national and international talent in the graf and street art realm. Beyond "the shop" halcyon produces, co-promotes and provides DJ talent and music programming for a busy calendar of events ranging from local community block parties to underground dance parties in NYC's top club and lounge venues. |

Adultnapper
“Adultnapper” is a shadowy figure drawn from the dark reaches of Francis Harris' imagination. Born in Las Vegas, raised on punk rock, and schooled in philosophy, Harris went from “hating dance music,” to establishing himself as a DJ/Producer with a unique sound and a global audience. His often introspective productions, which have appeared on Audiomatique, Nummer, Mule, Dirt Crew and Superfreq, defy convention; relying instead on a sophisticated, song-based approach, marked by elaborate swung micro-rhythms, thick musical baselines, complex arrangements and haunting tonal melodies. As a DJ, primarily mixing records, Harris employs precision skills and thoughtful programming to expand upon Adultnapper’s sonic terriitory, earning him turns on the world’s most discerning dancefloors; DC10, Ibiza, The End, London, Cielo, NY, Weekend, Berlin, Pawn Shop, Miami, and Avalon, LA are just a few that he’s taken on one of his trademark emotion-laden rides. CLEVER
Clever discovered the sounds of drum & bass while taking a semester abroad in London. He moved to New York City two years later to work at Breakbeat Science, turning his dream of pursuing drum & bass full time into reality. Residencies at numerous events, including: Aerophobia, Push, Deluxe and Fortified, established his sound and presence in NYC. Clever's sets have stirred dancefloors in cities globally, including: London, Berlin, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Portland, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Reykjavik, Iceland.
Clever currently focuses on his label, Offshore Recordings. Artists Deep Blue, Paradox, Seba, ASC, Graphic, Sileni, Martsman and Tundra, collaborations with Ohm Resistance, Klute's Commercial Suicide label, Scuba's Hotflush label and worldwide distribution through ST Holdings, forge a unique path. Knowledge Magazine, BBC Radio 1xtra, Drum & Bass Arena, BPM, XLR8R and Simon Reynolds have all recognized and praised the label's progress. 2008 brings bigger and better things for Offshore and Clever.

Anthony parasole
Born in Brooklyn, Anthony was educated on NYC radio shows. That means house mixes drenched in Strictly Rhythm, NuGroove, and Wild Pitch and alligiances to DJs like Armand Van Helden and Danny Tenaglia. Like so many New Yorkers, Anthony also lived Hip-Hop through the late 80's to the mid 90's, completely engulfed with the gritty New York backpack street-music scene. This convergence can be heard in his DJs sets which feature deep dark Techno with that old rolling bass line feel played with his Percussive New York City touch.
